Dance Class Descriptions

Dance Performance (12& Up): This class is Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Classes will be 1.5 -2hrs and will cover all styles of dance, classical training and musical theatre.

Classical Ballet: Students develop grace, musicality, and elegant line as they learn ballet technique and terminology . Ballet class begins at the barre with emphasis on strengthening, balance and placement and then flows into the center including adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro, grand allegro, and short variations.

Jazz: Classes introduce warm-ups, stretches, and dynamic combinations to the upbeat rhythm of contemporary music. Styles that are studied include Musical Theatre, Hip-Hop, Modern Jazz, and Lyrical among others...

Lyrical or Contemporary: This lyrical class emphasizes the use of floor for centering and grounding oneself in movement, and like other dance forms brings its own focus on the use of breath (inhale-exhale) to bring quality to movement. Concepts of overcurve-undercurve, contraction-release, musicality and rhythm are explored. The class incorporates an eclectic blend of contemporary and lyrical movement for a style that is both quirky and organic.  Students can expect a deep, fluid warm-up with an emphasis on correct alignment.  Phrase material includes floor work and gives dancers the opportunity to explore their own expression and style while challenging their technique and performance abilities

Hip Hop: This class is specially instructed to fit the skill and age level of each class. All the moves, combinations, and routines are all age appropiate. This is a fast pace class that focuses on technique, strenghting, and different hip hop styles. Every student will learn to improvise and create their own dances and routines paced on their own personality.

Tap: This class is designed to develop coordination, counting skills, rhythm, style and stage presence. Various styles of tap are presented, ranging from the Broadway style of specific steps to a straight temp to the more syncopated jazzy style of "rhythm tap".

Musical Theatre: The team of students in this class will be an intregal part of all areas of recital production such as; choosing over all theme, ordering the classes, set design, esthetics, cohesiveness, and flow. Students will be taught how a stage production functions through both pre-production and backstage management. Students are encouraged to improvise, explore and perform. This class is about supporting the creative process, team building, and self confidence.

Belly Dance: This class is for girls only! As your daughters move into puberty it is essential that they maintain a healthy body image. This class promotes the beauty of the belly! The girls will learn basic postures, feet positions, arm and hand positions and movements. They will learn various rhythms and styles of belly dancing and a short choreography. Recital is optional for these students. It's up to the girls.

Yoga for Children: Yoga compliments any dance class, sport or activity that your child is currently involved in. It's practice helps the developing child with balance as it stretches and tones all the muscles of the body. It is a very important life long tool for the prevention of injury.

Tiny Twos: A special class for a special age. Dance activities emphasize the fun and excitement of discovering the world through movement. The Basic dance skills and vocabulary are introduced with an emphasis on self-expression and creativity while learning how to follow direction and imitate movement in a positive environment.  Engaging music is used to get these little guys inspired to dance.  The use of props enables the young dancers to use their imagination, creativity and, most of all, have fun!

Ballet Tap Combo Class: : This class is recommended as a precursor to studying formal technique in ballet, modern dance, or tap. The use of music, props, and poetry to develop basic motor and locomotor skills.

Dance Cheer Tumble Combo Class: : This combo class is designed for the age it is taught. Will will study beginning tumbling and beam. They will learn chants, cheers, and stunts. As well as young dance team and drill team style dances. The dances may include poms or the use of other props.

Dance Room Policies

The reward of dance is an internal joy! We are here to support the joy and love of dance! We will foster thisinternal reward and not stifle it by rewarding the children with stickers or candy!

1. If you are more than 10 minutes late, You are too late.
Please do not interrupt the class in session.

2. Parents are not to interrupt/interact with students during class time. (over three yrs old.)

3. ALL STUDENTS MUST WEAR PROPER DANCE ATTIRE
-students dropped off in jeans can not participate in class

4. All students should bring a water bottle to every class.

5. Walkers from Richlands Elementary should dress for inclement weather.
We walk rain or shine.

6. LONG HAIR MUST BE UP

7. No gum or candy
